A WhatsApp QR code lets someone scan a code and open a chat with a specific WhatsApp number. You can also include a prefilled message so the conversation starts with useful context already prepared.
With QRmakerX, the WhatsApp link is stored directly in the QR code. QRmakerX does not create a redirect, track scans or send the message for the user.

Open the Free WhatsApp QR Code GeneratorWhat Is a WhatsApp QR Code?
A WhatsApp QR code is a QR code containing a WhatsApp chat link. When someone scans it on a compatible phone, the link opens WhatsApp or WhatsApp Web and starts a conversation with the encoded number.
QRmakerX uses a direct wa.me link. A basic example looks like this:
With a prefilled message, the link also contains encoded text. The message appears in the chat box, but the person scanning still decides whether to send it.
How to Format the WhatsApp Number Correctly
Use the full international number. The QRmakerX generator asks for the country code separately from the local phone number.
For example, a UAE mobile number written locally as 050 123 4567 should be entered as:
- Country code: 971
- Phone number: 501234567
Do not include the plus sign, spaces, brackets, dashes or the leading local zero in the phone-number field. The generator builds the correct WhatsApp link from the values you enter.
How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code Step by Step
1. Open the WhatsApp QR generator
Go to the QRmakerX WhatsApp QR Code Generator.
2. Enter the country code
Enter the international country code without the plus sign. For the UAE, enter 971.
3. Enter the WhatsApp number
Enter the mobile number without spaces, punctuation or the leading local zero.
4. Add an optional prefilled message
Write a short greeting, enquiry or support prompt that should appear when the chat opens.
5. Customize the QR design
Choose high-contrast colors, select the output size and optionally add a small logo. For more branding options, see QR Code with Logo.
6. Create and test the QR code
Generate the QR code and use the test-chat button. Confirm that the correct WhatsApp account opens.
7. Scan it on a real phone
Test on Android and iPhone when possible. For camera instructions, see How to Scan a QR Code on Android and iPhone.
8. Download the final format
Use PNG for common digital use, SVG for scalable print artwork and PDF for convenient document workflows.
How to Write a Good Prefilled WhatsApp Message
A prefilled message should make the purpose of the chat obvious without forcing the user to rewrite everything.
Useful examples
- Hello, I would like more information about your service.
- I am interested in property reference A-105.
- Please send me the available appointment times.
- I need support for order number ______.
Avoid passwords, payment details or confidential information in a printed QR code. Also avoid messages that imply the user has already agreed to send something.
WhatsApp QR vs SMS QR vs Phone QR
| QR type | Main action | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp QR | Opens a WhatsApp chat | Chat enquiries, support, sales and customer service |
| SMS QR | Opens a text-message draft | Standard mobile messaging without requiring WhatsApp |
| Phone QR | Opens the phone dialer | When a voice call is the main action |
Does a WhatsApp QR Code Expire?
QRmakerX creates a static QR code. QRmakerX does not add an expiry date or scan limit. However, the code is only useful while the phone number is active on WhatsApp and the encoded chat link continues to work.
The phone number and prefilled message are stored in the fixed WhatsApp link. If either changes, create a new QR code. For the broader distinction, read Static vs Dynamic QR Codes.
How to Test a WhatsApp QR Code
- Use the generator's test-chat button.
- Confirm that the correct WhatsApp number opens.
- Check that the complete prefilled message appears.
- Scan the QR code with Android and iPhone when available.
- Test the downloaded file, not only the preview.
- For print use, test the final physical size before producing many copies.

Useful WhatsApp QR Code Examples
Business cards
Add a WhatsApp QR code when you want prospects to start a conversation instead of manually saving or typing your number. For contact-card planning, also see QR Codes for Business Cards.
Retail and packaging
Use the QR code for product questions, order enquiries or support requests.
Property and automotive
Include a reference number in the prefilled message so the agent immediately knows which property or vehicle the customer scanned.
Events and exhibitions
Place the QR code on stands, posters or printed material so visitors can contact an organiser or sales representative quickly.
Privacy and Responsible Use
QRmakerX creates the WhatsApp link and QR code in the browser. According to the generator's current design, it does not create a QRmakerX redirect, track scans, send messages or store the number entered in the tool.
You remain responsible for how you use the QR code. Avoid spam, repeated unsolicited messages and misleading instructions. If you add a third-party logo, make sure you have permission to use it.
